The Outside Zone 2022 Preview Schedule
Here's what to expect from the Outside Zone this offseason.
Howdy folks. This isn’t a true dispatch, because I’m off until the end of the season, but I wanted to give a quick update on what you can expect from The Outside Zone in the coming weeks and months. Many of you are new to the newsletter as of this season and have yet to see an offseason around town, and I figure it’s as good a time to let you in the plan.
As I did last offseason, I plan on previewing every Group of Five team, from UNLV to Cincinnati and everyone in between.
That’ll start on Jan. 12, with a look at Akron under new head coach Joe Moorhead, and will continue through the offseason as the most frequent series. I’ll jump around to throwback film studies and stories of the day as needed, but in large part, the offseason is preview season around these parts.
Unlike last year, I’m going to organize the previews this offseason by conference, rolling through each one from bottom to top with a power ranking and prediction at the end of each league. I figure it’s a better way to keep everything in one place, especially for fans with an interest in one specific league.
As it is in the season, the Wednesday dispatch will be free, while the Monday and Friday issues will be paid. If I can stay on top of it, I might try to reserve Wednesday for film studies, history stories or anything else that comes to mind, but I don’t want to guarantee that from the jump, because as many of you know, this is not my full-time job, and those stories often eat up an entire day.
If you’re a free subscriber interested in knowing more about the G5 writ large, I would really, really recommend subscribing to the paid newsletters ahead of the offseason. These previews help me in preparing for the season immensely, and I think they’ll do the same for you. It’s five dollars a month, or $50 a year.
I’ll also be around all offseason on Flipping The Field, my weekly national college football podcast with Ryan Donnelly, which I may have some news on as it relates to this newsletter in the coming months.
Thank you for your patronage. Your support keeps this newsletter running, and I’m thrilled to enter The Outside Zone’s third offseason with that support behind me.
