Charlotte at Western Kentucky, 4 p.m., ESPN+
Okay, I can’t sell this one to you as important or especially high-quality. Neither team here has a good enough defense to compete for the C-USA crown – especially with UTSA playing as well as is it – and some disastrous losses in recent weeks. Charlotte was just blasted by a middling FAU squad. WKU, to its credit, has won two straight and seems to have a better idea of how to close out a game after starting the season with four brutal close losses in a row.
More importantly, though, there are two offenses here that I do trust. WKU has fully adopted the Houston Baptist air raid and is having a ton of fun with Bailey Zappe at quarterback. It was a down week against FAU for Chris Reynolds and the Charlotte offense, but it too has been able to put up numbers with an engaging and efficient style.
I think WKU wins here, perhaps comfortably, but nobody is playing defense in this game. In an early slate without a ton in the way of entertainment, I think this is a good place to park the TV or the second screen.
